Authorities in Charlottesville, Va., said Monday that the suspect in a fatal shooting that killed three members of the University of Virginia's football team has been taken into custody.

University President James Ryan said the shootings occurred on a bus "full of students returning from a field trip." He said three did not survive, while two other students were being treated for injuries, with one of them in critical condition and the other in good condition.

Police added the suspect was a university student and had played on the football team in 2018, during his freshman year.
