Authorities in Minnesota said 24 people were arrested on Wednesday night as protests over the shooting death of Daunte Wright continued for a fourth evening in Brooklyn Center.
Groups of demonstrators taunted sheriff's deputies lined up behind a chain-link fence in front of the city's police headquarters, throwing objects at them and using umbrellas to block what appeared to be a chemical spray towards them.
According to the Hennepin County Sheriff David Hutchinson, in examining the arrest records and the addresses on file, the majority of those taken into custody were not Brooklyn Center residents.
As a curfew took effect, law enforcement backed by National Guard troops moved to break up the crowds with pepper spray and flash bangs.
Wright was shot on Sunday after being pulled over for what police said was an expired car registration. Officers discovered there was a warrant out for his arrest, and ex-officer Kim Potter is said to have accidentally drawn her pistol instead of her Taser during the confrontation with Wright, who got back into his car, officials said.
