The number of attacks by criminal gangs against migrants and refugees who cross Panama’s 130km-long (80-mile-long) Darien Gap is increasing sharply.
More than half a million people - the majority from Latin America - are expected to make the dangerous journey before the end of this year on their way north to the United States border.

Al Jazeera's Latin America Editor, Lucia Newman, has this report from Puerto Chiquito in the Darien Gap.
