The federal government says American visitors will still need a PCR test and there’s a new mandate for truckers, considered essential workers, who go back and forth over the border.

They’ll have to be vaccinated for COVID-19.

Fully vaccinated Canadians returning from trips longer than 72 hours will still be required to show proof of a negative polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test upon return.

“With more Canadians getting vaccinated every day, we can move forward, though cautiously, towards a more open border, economy and society,” said Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos during a press conference Friday.

As David Akin reports, this patchwork of rules has irked the travel industry.
