British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is self-isolating due to another potential exposure to COVID-19, after Health Secretary Sajid Javid tested positive for the virus, though the decision reversed an earlier announcement that he would not have to quarantine after facing an uproar of criticism.

The prime minister's new quarantine comes just hours ahead of England's "Freedom Day" on Monday, when most pandemic restrictions are expected to lift. Under the new rules, the government says it would remove the requirement for people who have been fully vaccinated to self-isolate after contact with an infected person, but not until August 16. Nightclubs will also be able to reopen and sports and entertainment venues can admit capacity crowds and face masks are no longer mandatory indoors.

But as Sean O'Shea reports, despite the U.K.'s vaccination efforts, scientists warn that rapid return to normal could come at a high price as Britain sees rising cases due to the more infectious Delta variant.
