Shopping malls across Beijing went dark on Monday as the city tightened COVID-19 restrictions, with a rising number of infections.
Beijing has closed gyms and entertainment venues, banned dine-in service at restaurants and shut scores of bus routes. Many residents have also voluntarily shuttered themselves indoors.
Residents in the worst-hit areas are being told to work from home as more roads, compounds and parks are sealed off.
It is the worst COVID-19 outbreak in the city since 2020.
