The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for emergency use on Friday, according to a statement posted on the company's website.

There were reports the head of the FDA could have been fired if it had not been approved.

The vaccine was endorsed Thursday as safe and effective by an independent panel of experts. Now, it’s up to the FDA to sign off and get it to the public. America’s daily death toll reached a new high of more than 3,000.
