British Columbia's provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry reported 998 new COVID-19 cases and five deaths on Monday, two days after the province unveiled new regional public health orders for Fraser Health and Vancouver Coastal Health as cases surge in both regions.
The order banned any social gatherings with people who are not a part of one’s household, as well as banned indoor group physical activities and sports where physical-distancing cannot be maintained.
The order went into effect on Saturday and will remain in place until midnight on Nov. 23.
There are 133 people being treated in hospital for COVID-19, the highest total since April 14. Of those, 43 are in intensive care, the most since April 23.
