Cops pepper-spray and 'threaten to execute' army lieutenant

A Virginia police officer has been fired after he pepper-sprayed a serving US Army lieutenant and threatened him with a slang term for execution.

As he drove through the town of Windsor, Lt. Caron Nazario was pulled over in his SUV by Joe Gutierrez and Daniel Crocker because the two officers didn’t see a temporary license plate in his rear window.

Footage of the incident, which took place on December 5, 2020, from Gutierrez’s bodycam has been released. It shows the officers pulling their guns and ordering Nazario to get out of his car. Despite several pleas by Nazario, the officers don’t explain the reason for the stop.

At one point, when Nazario asks, ‘What’s going on?’ Gutierrez replies, ‘What’s going on is that you’re fixing to ride the lightning, son.’ ‘Ride the lightning’ is slang for execution by electric chair.

As the situation escalates, Gutierrez in particular becomes more aggressive. When Nazario tells the officers, ‘I’m honestly afraid to get out,’ Gutierrez replies, ‘Yeah, you should be.’

Gutierrez then pepper sprays Nazario three times in the face.

Nazario, who continues to plead for an explanation and tells the officers that his dog is choking from the pepper spray, is eventually forced to the ground, in clear distress.

Nazario has filed a federal lawsuit against the officers. Gutierrez has now been fired but Crocker appears to still be serving
