Cerberus heatwave: Italy gripped by extreme heat

Residents in 15 cities across Italy have been told to stay out of direct sunlight as extreme heat continues to grip southern Europe.

The Italian government has advised anyone in areas covered by today's red alerts to avoid the sun and to take particular care of the elderly and vulnerable.

Temperatures in some regions are expected to reach 12 degrees above average this weekend.
