Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Disability Inclusion Carla Qualthrough announced Friday that the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) had made a seizure at the Port of Vancouver on Oct. 25 totaling nearly 2,500 kg of opium on 247 shipping pallets with an estimated street value over $50 million.
The RCMP say that no individual has been charged in relation to the seizure, but that it remains an active investigation.
"The origin of this investigation was brought forward from a law enforcement partner," said Will Ng, assistant commissioner of the B.C. RCMP.
The CBSA say the seizure is the largest in its history.
