Members of Canadian Parliament returned to the House of Commons on Thursday to mark the death of Queen Elizabeth II, the longest-reigning monarch in British history.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was among the many ministers, party leaders and MPs who delivered remarks as part of this special session honouring the queen.

The House of Commons had originally been scheduled to return from its summer break on Sept. 19, but the queen's funeral being held that day will push it a day back.

The commemoration in the House of Commons also included speeches from Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre, Bloc Quebecois Leader Yves-Francois Blanchet and NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh.
