Canadian Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos, alongside other government officials, held a news conference on Monday to address health concerns related to wildfire smoke.

If possible, they advised to keep windows and doors closed to prevent smoke from entering your home — even if it is very hot. If you don't have air conditioning and are finding it to feel too hot with closed openings, seek a local clean air area, they said.

As for recognizing the signs of wildfire smoke exposure, be on the lookout for symptoms that include: a headache, chest pain, a sore throat, watery eyes, wheezing, and more.

Smoke from wildfires burning across Canada has affected cities across North America — and even as far away as Norway. The East Coast of the U.S. has experienced hazardous levels of pollution from the wildfires burning in Canada.

While the side effects from a fire are naturally dangerous when you are in close proximity to the flames, once the smoke starts to travel, the effects can also be worse further down the line.
