Canada's chief health officer Dr. Theresa Tam said on Tuesday that based on the latest unofficial numbers, the country has already surpassed its initial targets of more than 75 per cent of Canadians 12 years or older receiving at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and more than 20 per cent fully vaccinated.

In addition, Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Disability Inclusion of Canada Carla Qualtrough announced that earlier in the day, she had introduced legislation to create "The Canada Disability Benefit."

She said it is intended to compliment other income sources for people with disabilities.

The briefing also comes after new border measures were announced Monday, which would allow Canadian citizens, permanent residents and people registered under the Indian Act who are fully vaccinated to be able to enter Canada without having to quarantine after travelling. However, the government advised they would need to require proof of vaccination and a negative COVID-19 test to bypass the current quarantine and testing rules.
