With a lower-than-expected deficit, the federal government has announced it will commit $28 billion in new spending over six years.
In April, Canada's deficit was originally projected to balloon up to $155 billion. Now, thanks to a stronger economy, it looks like it could have been as low as $116 billion.
But rather than bring down the deficit as low as possible, Ottawa's new spending plan means 2021's deficit will be about $145 billion.
