Speaker Nancy Pelosi has called Joe Biden "President-elect" and said "it is clear that the Biden-Harris ticket will win the White House".

She said she is "officially pleased with the outcome that is imminent", calling it "historic" due to record voting numbers.

"This has been a life or death fight for the fate of our democracy," she said.

The election result has not yet been declared.
