BREAKING: Minister rejects Braverman's 'migrant invasion' claim

Immigration minister Robert Jenrick has played down language used by his boss, the home secretary, describing the influx of asylum seekers to the UK as an "invasion".

But Suella Braverman MP describing people crossing the Channel as an "invasion" was a way to show the scale of the migration issue, Robert Jenrick told Sky News.

He added that Ms Braverman was speaking for the people who live on the south coast.

Mr Jenrick reiterated that he would "never demonise people coming to this country in pursuit of a better life", pointing out that he housed Ukrainian refugees this year.
