British Prime Minister Boris Johnson suggested feeding people to animals to "rebalance nature" on Monday during a news conference with children on climate change.
Johnson's comment came in response to a child's question about rewilding nature.
He also criticized Coca Cola for being a large producer of plastic waste, and also suggested breeding "polite" cows "that burp less" in the U.K. could combat greenhouse gas emissions.
Britain is gearing up to host the United Nations COP26 global climate conference in Glasgow, which begins on Oct. 31.
Johnson, as host of the summit, has cast the meeting as one of the last major chances to slow rising temperatures, and had hoped it would showcase his attempt at global leadership.
