Dramatic police bodycam footage has shown the moment a woman was rescued from a car submerged in a river.

The rescue operation took place after a 2013 Hyundai plunged into the Indian River in Melbourne, Florida after it veered off the highway. The cause of the accident wasn’t clear, but an eyewitness was quoted saying the vehicle ‘flipped over two or three times’.

A police officer, identified as Peter Dolci, was doing a traffic stop nearby when he noticed the commotion.

He quickly descended onto the scene, and found a woman trapped inside the car. A shirtless man – believed to be a good Samaritan – was holding the woman’s head above the water.

According to the newspaper Florida Today, officers performed CPR on the woman once she was rescued from the vehicle, and she was taken to a nearby hospital.

According to the latest reports, she remains in a stable condition.
