Utah police have released body camera footage from Aug. 12 that shows Gabby Petito and her fiancé Brian Laundrie talking to officers after being pulled over, a month before she was reported missing.
The 22-year-old woman was declared missing by her family on Sept. 11. Laundrie is refusing to speak to police about what happened after he returned home early from their months-long road trip across the United States, in an adventure that they had documented on Instagram and YouTube.
In the video, police were responding to a domestic abuse call when they pulled over the couple's white van outside Arches National Park in Moab. Petito appeared distressed and emotional, telling officers that she and Laundrie had a fight that morning.
Petito admits to officers that she slapped Laundrie repeatedly as well as caused him to be distracted while driving. Laundrie later tells officers he locked her outside of the car at one point because she had, in his opinion, become too agitated.
Police in North Port, Fla., have confiscated the couple’s van and are treating Laundrie as a person of interest in the case. The search is still ongoing for Petito.
Viewer note: The hour-long bodycam footage released by police was condensed for brevity.
