Protesting Indian farmers demanding higher prices for their produce observed a “Black Day” on Friday following the death of a young protester days earlier. Some burned an effigy with pictures of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other ministers on it.

Groups of Nihang Sikhs, or orthodox Sikh warriors, joined the protesting farmers to offer their 'protection' during the demonstrations after violence erupted earlier in the week between police and protesters.

Nihang, also known as Dal Khalsa, is an armed Sikh warrior order known for their martial heroics where they were heavily outnumbered.

Farmers in India, mostly from the northern state of Punjab, have been attempting to march to the capital for more than a week as part of their 'Delhi Chalo' (Let's Go to Delhi) campaign demanding legally binding higher prices for their crops, among other things.
