U.S. President Joe Biden said on Tuesday that America is on the “cusp of an infrastructure decade” as the Senate passed a $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure plan that is considered the cornerstone of the president’s agenda.

Biden called the infrastructure bill “historic” and said the Senate’s approval shows the chamber “can still come together to do important things.”

The bill includes funding for rebuilding roads, broadband internet, water pipes and the public works system that underpin much of American life.

The outline for Biden’s bigger $3.5 trillion package is next up for the Senate – a more liberal undertaking of child-care, elder care and other programs that is much more partisan and expected to draw only Democratic support.
