U.S. President Joe Biden and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden took part in the The National Christmas Tree lighting outside the White House on Thursday.
Vice President Kamala Harris and second gentleman Doug Emhoff also attended, while Rapper LL Cool J. hosted the ceremony. The event featured performers including Billy Porter, Kristin Chenoweth, Chris Stapleton, Patti Labelle and the Howard Gospel Choir.
The president offered prayers for COVID-19 victims and their loved ones during the ceremony, saying “we pray for them to find strength in sorrow, purpose from pain.”
Thursday’s event marked the 99th annual National Christmas Tree lighting on the Ellipse.
