At the White House news briefing on Friday, Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre and COVID-19 co-ordinator Dr. Ashish Jha insisted that U.S. President Joe Biden did not have a fever and that his peak temperature of 37.4 degrees Celsius (99.4 degrees Fahrenheit) did not qualify for a low-grade fever.
The press briefing came following a letter released by U.S. President Joe Biden’s personal physician Dr. Kevin O’Connor earlier in the day, which indicated that Biden experienced an elevated temperature the night before.
Jean-Pierre and Jha also added that the president had completed his first full day of PAXLOVID Acetaminophen (Tylenol), which improved his “mild symptoms” of a runny nose, fatigue and “loose” cough. Acetaminophen (Tylenol) was also used to treat his temperature, which has remained normal since then.
Jha added that 79-year-old Biden's mild symptoms can be attributed to being fully vaccinated and having received two booster shots, while Jean-Pierre said that Biden continues to work a full eight-hour day in isolation.
Biden is not the first world leader or the first U.S. president to get COVID-19, which has infected Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, French President Emmanuel Macron and more than a dozen other leaders and high-ranking officials globally.
