U.S. President Joe Biden said on Tuesday that the U.S. "stands with Israel" and that it is working with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government on hostage recovery efforts.

The president confirmed that U.S. nationals are among those who were kidnapped by Hamas. Biden says they are "surging additional military assistance" that includes ammunition, as well as "interceptors to replenish the iron dome."

Biden says he told Netanyahu if the U.S. were in Israel's position their response would be "swift, decisive and overwhelming,"

Hamas carried out an unprecedented, multi-front attack on Israel, firing thousands of rockets, killing hundreds and even taking many hostage over the weekend.
