Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has said he wants guarantees that Russia will defend his country if it is attacked.
During a meeting with Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu on Monday, Lukashenko said he had previously discussed the matter with President Vladimir Putin, who said he agreed such security guarantees should be formalized.
“What security guarantees can America provide us? None. Apart from provoking aggression toward us. We need full security guarantees from our brothers in Russia,” he told Shoigu.
Belarus, which currently hosts a contingent of Russian forces, has offered assistance to Moscow during its military campaign in Ukraine.
