Russia is stepping up efforts to capture the eastern town of Bakhmut.
It sits on the main road leading to the Ukrainian-held cities of Slovyansk and Kramatorsk.
As Al Jazeera's @Assed Baig reports, if Bakhmut falls, it could bring other areas within the range of Russian artillery.
