Bastille Day 2022: Fireworks light up night sky around Eiffel Tower as celebrations wrap up | FULL

Fireworks lit up the night sky around the Eiffel Tower on Thursday as part of the celebrations wrapping up Bastille Day in Paris, France on Thursday.

Earlier in the day, President Emmanuel Macron kicked off the celebrations and troops from Central and Eastern Europe joined the annual military parade in an apparent nod to the war in Ukraine.

Delegations from Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria marched ahead of the traditional French military parade, each national carrying their respective national flag.

Bastille Day commemorates the storming of the Bastille prison in 1789, one of the key events of the French Revolution. The day has become a national holiday in France.
