Thousands of military and public security personnel paraded by foot, on vehicles and aboard jets over Paris' Champs Elysees avenue on Wednesday as France celebrated its national day.

French President Emmanuel Macron led the national day parade, marking the first time the traditional Bastille Day event has been held since the COVID-19 crisis began.

Some 5,000 participants were expected to take part in this year's march, which starts from the Arc de Triomphe monument and ends with a ceremony on the Concorde square.
