The small ferry had been carrying about 50 people when it hit a cargo vessel on Sunday night.
Hundreds die in ferry accidents every year in Bangladesh and are blamed on badly maintained vessels, poor safety standards and overcrowding.
Witnesses say the capsized ferry was overloaded. An investigation has been launched.
