U.S. President Joe Biden spoke on Friday about the progress made thus far in removing debris following the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, Maryland.

The president says two small channels have been cleared for essential ships. “The Army corps says by the end of April they’ll be able to open the third channel for some commercial traffic, including car carriers, and by the end of May we’ll open the full channel,” Biden said.

Biden also said his government has been hard at work to keep supply chains moving which includes improving an alternative port for ships. “The federal government will provide over $8 million in grant funds to make the infrastructure improvements at Sparrow’s Point,” he said.
