Tens of thousands of people have rallied in cities across Australia demanding action to end gender-based violence.
The protests are in response to a sharp increase in the number of women being killed.

Al Jazeera’s Um-e-Kulsoom Shariff reports.

Vicky Ward is the Victorian state minister for prevention of family Violence.
She says people are more confident in coming forward to report incidents of violence.
