Australia bus crash: Truck driver charged in "horrific" collision with school bus

Australian police charged a 49-year-old truck driver over a major collision with a school bus near Melbourne that hospitalized 18 children, with seven suffering serious injuries and some requiring limb amputations.

The truck driver was charged with four counts of dangerous driving causing serious injury after it hit the bus from behind carrying at least 45 students, which overturned. The 49-year-old man appeared in a Melbourne court on Wednesday and was granted bail.

"We had passersby who heroically stopped and assisted the children who could be removed from the bus... some of the children were trapped and as you say it was a horrific scene," said Victoria police superintendent Michael Cruse.
