People celebrated outside Argentina's congress building on Friday after its lower house passed a bill that paves the way it to potentially become the fourth Latin American country to legalize abortion. It will need to pass in the senate before it could become law.
The bill was put forward by President Alberto Fernandez as calls strengthen for more reproductive rights for women.
People opposing the legislation also watched the debate from outside the congress building and some lawmakers opposing the law have argued that abortions would be a violation of the American Constitution on Human Rights, which they say takes precedence over the national constitution.
