Argentina's Senate approved in general terms President Javier Milei’s key reform bill by a razor-thin margin late on Wednesday as well as a twin fiscal package in the early hours of Thursday. In the streets of Buenos Aires, locals commuting to work expressed mixed reactions to the vote.

"Truth be told this is a disaster, I think it is terrifying, what was voted for. It seems to me that we don't realise the consequences it could have, I feel very sad and it will be difficult to get out of this situation,” resident Laura Cancinos said.

Meanwhile, commuter Juan Pablo Echevesti said that the thought “a change is needed” and that he hopes he is “not wrong,” even though he did not agree with the proposals 100 per cent.

The win signalled Milei's ability to win over conservative and centrist allies, despite his libertarian party only having a small minority of seats in Congress. It also came amid violent and fiery protests against the bill outside the legislature.
