Bejing has endorsed a sweeping overhaul of Hong Kong's electoral system, creating powers for China's leaders to vet anyone standing for public office. The move also slashes the number of people able to stand for public office. The new overhaul is being seen as the latest attempt by China's central government to quashing the city's democracy movement after huge protests.
