Allegations of shoddy construction are being made after a Mexico City railway overpass collapsed late Monday night, dropping commuter train carriages and crushing people and vehicles in the boulevard below.

At least 24 people were killed in the accident, while nearly 80 others were injured. The route in question was one of the city's newest subway lines, having opened less than a decade ago.

But as Jackson Proskow reports, Mexico's President Andrés Manuel López Obrador is vowing to hold an inquiry amid allegations of shoddy design and poor construction that may have led to the deadly tragedy.
