World War Two veterans gathered for a D-Day commemoration ceremony on Wednesday near the Benouville bridge, codenamed 'Pegasus Bridge' in 1944, to honour their fallen comrades.
Among those was American infantryman "Papa Jake" Larson, who is 101 years old without "an ache of pain in my body." Larson spoke about being "the last man" from his infantry unit that stormed Omaha Beach on June 6, 1944.
Royal Navy gunner, Bob Gravells also sent his thoughts to families from both sides of the war, because as he put it: "war is nonsense, really. But in this case, it was necessary."
