In The Year in Weather in Alberta, we’ll show you first-hand video of extreme weather and earth related events, and dive deeper into their impacts on Alberta’s population and commerce.

The summer of 2022 was full of record-breaking numbers for the province of Alberta. Edmonton saw fall heat, which shattered temperature numbers in more than 140 years of data keeping. A severe thunderstorm — producing massive hailstones — captured Canada’s record for largest hailstone. A violent earthquake shook Alberta’s northwest right into the record books with the strongest quake ever recorded.

We’ll also take you right into the core of grapefruit-sized hail, put you in the living room of a home in northwestern Alberta as the strongest earthquake in Alberta’s history shakes the foundation, and we’ll recap the deadly heat Albertans lumbered through all summer and fall.

And have you heard terms on your local weather forecast that made you pause? Polar vortex, atmospheric river… chinook? We’ll dive deeper into these terms and use interactive graphics to peel back the scientific layers of your local forecast.

The Year in Weather is presented by Global Calgary’s Tiffany Lizee and Global Edmonton’s Jesse Beyer.
