2023 declared hottest year on record after extreme weather events

Raging wildfires, scorching heat waves, El Niño and other extreme weather events all contributed to 2023 being the hottest year on record, according to the Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S).

Data from the C3S shows every day of that year was at least 1°C above pre-industrial temperatures.

As Redmond Shannon reports, climate scientists warn the continued burning of fossil fuels will likely lead to even hotter years.
