This year's German Africa Prize has been awarded to two scientists who identified the Omicron variant of the coronavirus.
Sikhulile Moyo and Tulio de Oliveira are based in Botswana and South Africa respectively, and have been praised for helping the world better understand the pandemic and respond swiftly. DW correspondent Adrian Kriesch visited their labs.
