More than 180,000 migrants were intercepted at the United States-Mexico border in May.
It is the highest number since Joe Biden became president.
Despite that tally, his administration says the number of unaccompanied minors is on the decline.
Advocates say governments on both sides still need to do more to make sure the needs of migrants, especially children and teens, are being met.
Al Jazeera's Manuel Rapalo reports from Mexico City.
