Uganda's capital Kampala is on high alert after suicide bombings in the heart of the city killed several people and injured scores more. It's the third bomb attack in Uganda since October.
Ugandan police have released security footage capturing the moments the bombers detonated their devices. They say this and earlier explosions were carried out by a group called the Allied Democratic Forces. The ADF are an Islamist extremist group with ties to the so-called Islamic State. The group has its base in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo on the border to Uganda.
And the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo is experiencing a flare up of attacks in its Kivu provinces.
The region on the borders to Rwanda and Uganda has been the epicenter of Congo's conflict for decades. It's estimated that there are more than 100 armed groups operating in Congo's east.
Among them, is the ADF as well as other feared militia groups like the M23. The recent attacks dampen hopes of ever ending the long-simmering conflict in DRC. And it's the civilian population that is suffering.
