Israel freed the first group of 39 Palestinian women and youth who were being held in its prisons as part of the hostage-prisoner swap deal.

A total of 137 aid trucks and 129,000 litres of fuel also crossed into Gaza in the biggest humanitarian convoy to reach the area in 48 days of the war, the UN’s humanitarian office said.

The detainees were freed in exchange for 24 hostages — including Israeli women and children, Thai farm workers and a Filipino citizen.

In all, 50 hostages in Gaza and 150 detainees in Israel are expected to be freed during the four-day ceasefire.
