1 person dead in Ottawa explosion, 5 unaccounted for

Providing an update on an explosion at a business in the city on Friday, Ottawa Police Service Insp. Frank D’Aoust said one man had died from his injuries and another remained in hospital after Thursday’s explosion on Merivale Rd. A third was was released from hospital.

Police are looking for another five people who were believed to be at the building when the explosion occurred.

D’Aoust said due to heavy damage from the explosion an investigation into its cause “would take time.”

Police say they don’t believe there are any survivors among those still missing.

Representatives from the Ottawa Fire Service and Office of the Fire Marshal in Ontario both offered their condolences to families of those killed and injured.
