Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy honoured soldiers on Tuesday who died fighting advancing Russian troops onto Kyiv one year ago.

He said at a new memorial site that the defeat of advancing Russian soldiers in Moshchun on March 21, 2022, was one of the turning points in the battle for Kyiv in the first two months of the war with Russia.

"We didn't fall, and Kyiv persevered, together with the whole country," Zelenskyy said.

Bells sounded as the names of soldiers were read out and the families of those killed looked on, before those attending the memorial said unanimously: "Glory to the soldiers."

Zelenskyy also presented state awards to the family members of fallen soldiers that died in Moshchun.
