Director-general of the World Health Organization (WHO) Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus renewed his plea on Thursday for partner countries of the COVAX vaccine-sharing program to share 10 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.
Ghebreyesus said that while he first made the appeal last week, no countries have met the challenge.
He added that WHO has so far delivered 35 million vaccine doses to more than 78 countries, but said vaccine equity remains a challenge.
The additional 10 million doses would give another 20 countries the vaccine supply needed to begin vaccinating their health workers and seniors.
