World Health Organization (WHO) director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus announced on Friday that the organization gave emergency use listing for Sinopharm's COVID-19 vaccine, making it the 6th vaccine to receive the organization's validation for "safety, efficacy, and quality."

Ghebreyesus also said that the Strategically Advisory Group of Experts on Immunization (SAGE) recommended the Chinese state-owned drugmaker's vaccine for adults 18+ with a two-dose regimen.

Also, the WHO praised the Biden administration for its solidarity for vaccine equity after the U.S. announced Wednesday it now supports a proposal to waive intellectual property (IP) protection to help boost the global COVID-19 vaccine supply. The European Union is also willing to discuss the waiver.
