White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki on Friday said Taliban insurgents capturing the Afghan provincial capital of Zaranj and killing the government's senior media officer in Kabul won’t provide them any international legitimacy. “If the Taliban claim to want international legitimacy, these actions are not going to get them the legitimacy they seek,” Psaki said.

She also said the White House “strongly condemn…the assassination of Dawa Khan Menapal, the Director of Afghan Governmental Media Center. His murder follows the bombing attack in Kabul earlier this week that targeted the acting Afghan defense minister. The Taliban has claimed responsibility for this latest attack, and there's no reason to doubt reports they are responsible,” she said.

Psaki also discussed the latest on the federal government’s mandating of COVID-19 vaccines to federal employees and it’s call to the private sector to follow suit. Psaki said many are following the call to action including one of the nations largest nursing home chains announcing they would require vaccinations for employees.

As well, Psaki said the White House anticipates supply chain disruptions as the Delta variant of the coronavirus spreads around the globe.
"We haven't seen to date a direct impact on the economy from Delta, but we anticipate supply chain impacts," she said.
