Make no mistake. Our immigration system is at breaking point. Every week it seems another boatload of asylum seekers reaches our shores. Our immediate response is to lock these people up in detention centres, preferably way across the ocean on Christmas Island. It's a case of out of sight, out of mind - but there's no longer any room at the inn. More and more new arrivals are being housed on the mainland. And that's brought the problem front and centre like never before.
